MONTREAL – Sûreté du Québec investigators are searching the computer of a repeat sex offender after the Longueuil resident was arrested and charged with luring a 12-year-old boy over the Internet and sexually assaulting the victim in his own home.
Sylvain Dufresne, 34, is in custody while police examine evidence seized from his home on St. Alexandre St. He is charged with sexually assaulting the boy and producing child pornography by allegedly taking pictures of the assault.
He is also charged with sexual touching, invitation to sexual touching and using a computer to lure a minor for sex, an offence that carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
“There is the possibility of other charges, because his computer is still being analyzed,” said Roussillon regional police Constable Jean-Luc Robert.
Dufresne, a former Montrealer, has a criminal record that includes previous convictions for sex-related offences.
In 1998, he was investigated by a special division of the Montreal police for using newsgroups and chat rooms to lure teenage boys to his home in east-end Montreal. He had consensual sex with the boys, filmed it using a hidden camera and posted the videos on the Internet.
In that case, he pleaded guilty to extortion and was sentenced to two years of probation. (more…)
