Child injured in child abuse case is upgraded to stable

Children Walking on TrailThe condition of a one-month old infant who suffered a fractured skull and ribs and a brain bleed in an alleged child abuse case, has been upgraded to stable according to the Clarksville Police Department.

Penselyn Loyola, 24, of 65 Durrett Dr., in Clarksville has been charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect of the child, who was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center last Monday.

Loyola told police incidents occurred when the child was dropped down a flight of stairs in the home and twice in the shower in attempts to bathe the infant. She also said the child was recently hit in the head with a game controller, police said. (more…)

The 36-year-old woman has been charged with child abuse after grabbing and choking her 11-year-old daughter after getting upset about the Packers loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. (more…)

UK: Leicester child abuse pair named and shamed by victims

Mark ThomasTwo “wicked” paedophiles are today being publicly named and shamed at the request of their victims.

Stepfather Mark Thomas and his brother Paul were each jailed for 18 years yesterday after being convicted of a catalogue of sex crimes against two youngsters.

They are being identified thanks to the bravery of the victims, Mark Thomas’ step-children, who wanted their abusers names publicised – at the risk of revealing their own identities – in case anyone else has suffered at their hands.

New Zealand: A ‘long, sad story’ of child abuse

A mother punched her nine-year-old daughter so hard that the woman broke bones in her hand.

The punch was one of many incidents heard in the Auckland District Court today as Judge Brooke Gibson sentenced the 31-year-old mother to seven and-a-half years in prison with a minimum non-parole period of five years.

“It was sustained abuse, amounting to torture,” Judge Gibson said. The woman, who has name suppression to protect the identity of her children, had previously pleaded guilty to 25 charges. One of them was for assaulting the girl’s eight year-old brother. (more…)

Australia: Gang of paedophiles who subjected children to ‘systematic abuse’ via fake website are jailed for 27 years

Paedophile RingA woman and four men who ran a global paedophile ring through a fake nudist website were jailed for a total of 27 years today. A court heard its members subjected children to ‘systematic and continued sexual abuse of the worst sort.’

Police described the case as one of the most horrific incidents of child abuse they have ever investigated, with the network of paedophiles extending as far as Australia.

The ringleader pressurised his girlfriend into joining in with the abuse, according to the judge, taking advantage of her ‘low intelligence and weak character’. (more…)

US: Dad who let child drive while he was drunk, pleads guilty

A father who admitted he had his 9-year-old daughter drive his van while he was intoxicated pleaded guilty Monday to a felony child-abuse charge.

Shawn Weimer, 39, likely will receive probation when he is sentenced by Wayne County Circuit Judge Margie Braxton on Feb. 23.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree child abuse, a crime punishable by up to four years in prison, and a misdemeanor charge of allowing an unlicensed minor to operate a motor vehicle. (more…)

In the wake of charges against a Penn State football assistant coach, Albany legislators are calling to expand the list of those who are required by law to report suspected child abuse in New York.

The current state law requires immediate reporting of suspected child abuse, followed by written documentation within 48 hours for a long list of professionals who deal with children. The penalty for failure to report is a Class A misdemeanor and civil liability for subsequent damages. (more…)

Child abuse gang to be sentenced

Five people, including a couple from Portsmouth, are to be sentenced for their part in an international paedophile ring which committed “horrific” crimes against two young children in the UK and one in Australia.

Ringleaders Melissa Noon and her partner Robert Hathaway are to hear their punishment at Portsmouth Crown Court along with three men they met over the internet to carry out the abuse.

A six-week trial heard that two young children were abused by the group in the UK, which used a nudist website as a guise for their perversions. (more…)

Treating Pedophiles: Therapy Can Work, But It’s a Challenge

Treating PedophilesFor years David Prescott sat face to face with pedophiles, trying to evaluate if the people before him were making progress in treatment.

Prescott is a licensed therapist who worked in Minnesota, one of the 20 states that have passed civil commitment laws. Courts in these states have the power to confine child molesters, rapists and other sex offenders who have finished their prison sentences but are deemed too dangerous to re-enter the community. The former inmates can stay there indefinitely, or until they prove therapy has made them safe to leave. (more…)

Russian authorities break up online community for pedophiles

Russian authorities have arrested two men on suspicion of running an online community for pedophiles, the Russian League of Internet Security announced on Wednesday. The website had more than 100 members.

The League said the owner and administrator of the website have been arrested, although no details were given about the time and place of the arrests. The website had roughly 130 members, most of them from Russia, although some were from Germany, France, Israel and former Soviet nations. (more…)
