ATLATNA (MYFOX ATLANTA) – Federal agents said Wednesday that they broke up an international child pornography ring and a large part of it was being run out of Metro Atlanta. Two men were placed in federal custody and two more were faced with local charges.

Two men went before a federal magistrate judge Wednesday on a variety of child pornography charges.

Court documents state the men helped to send graphic images of young boys all over the world. (more…)

MacRae was traced after an FBI investigation

BBC News. A British man who used an internet chatroom to incite a paedophile to sexually abuse an eight-year-old girl in the United States has been jailed.

Ronald MacRae, 51, of Duncan Street, Pallion, Sunderland, sent messages to the offender on his home computer and watched the abuse filmed on a webcam.

He was traced after the FBI tipped off UK police, a court heard.MacRae, who pleaded guilty to eight charges relating to the 2004 abuse, was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Det Sgt Eric Myers, of Northumbria Police, speaking after the hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, said: “The sentence reflects the horrific nature of the crimes he was involved in.

“MacRae instigated these offences against an innocent girl for his own twisted gratification. ” The court heard that MacRae was tracked down after a two-year investigation involving the FBI and the UK based Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). Ruth Allen, head of intelligence at CEOP, said: “MacRae believed that because he was thousands of miles away from his victim law enforcement would be unable to connect him with these horrific offences. He was wrong.”

MacRae was put on to the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Panama Star PANAMA. The number of pornographic videos involving minors has increased dramatically according to a report of the Judicial Investigation Department (DIJ). It receives an average of two movies a month.

Several investigations have revealed that behind the production of these pornographic videos with children are adults who profit from their sale. The most shocking factor is that some of the blue videos are recording by minors using the cameras of their cellular phones. The authorities confirmed that many of these videos were recorded in schools and asked teachers and parents to control the use of cellular phones.

According to the DIJ report, what is more worrying is that this child pornography is finding its way on the Internet, which constitutes a more serious crime.
In November 2007, the daily El Siglo reported that a net of pornographers were selling DVDs of minors performing lurid acts in David, Chiriqui province. The video was filmed in a local school.
This is an ongoing problems that the authorities trying to contain, but due to the financial rewards and the secrecy surrounding crimes involving minors it is difficult to detect and arrest the culprits.
Child pornographers face a sentence of between seven to ten years.

A children’s charity says a huge shortfall in counselling is leaving thousands of sexually abused young people struggling to recover.The NSPCC says many services are so overstretched that they are being forced to close their books.

It found fewer than one support programme per 10,000 children in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

MP George Galloway has revealed he was abused as a child, as he backed new checks for adults working in schools.

The NSPCC said there were up to 88,500 sex abuse victims across the UK.

The charity’s report found that when therapy was available to young victims, there could be a delay of up to a year on waiting lists.

And teenagers were particularly likely to miss out on counselling because they were considered too old for a child protection plan but too young for adult services.

Often therapy was offered too late, when a child was already showing the effects of the abuse, and a gap was identified in provision to deal with rape and sexual abuse.

The NSPCC’s Debbie Allnock, who led the research, said there was a need for “huge investment” into therapeutic services for children. (more…)

This summer, the University of Rochester’s Mt. Hope Family Center will begin a large-scale, comprehensive study of the effects of child abuse. Funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the five-year, $2.25 million research project aims to understand how a complex host of factors – from genetics and family environment to hormonal regulation, personality traits, and brain activity – influence the well-being and mental health of children who have experienced child maltreatment.

“What is novel about this study is that it seeks to understand these children from multiple perspectives – neurocognitive, neuroendocrine, and neurophysiological as well as psychological,” said Center Research Director Fred Rogosch. “We will obtain very diverse assessments on the same child, providing a holistic view of the multiple ways in which child maltreatment affects development,” Rogosch said.

“Our focus on what factors support resilience is equally important,” Rogosch added. “Many abused children go on to lead productive, well-adjusted lives. Identifying these pathways to success is vital because it says to children and adults that ‘they are not doomed’ by an abusive childhood.” (more…)

This week the courts of Aragua-Caracas, Venezuela, issued sentences ranging from 20 to 25 years in prison for members of two groups that organized and filmed acts of pedophilia and disseminated them over the Internet.
