In an unusual legal case arising from the increasingly popular practice known as “sexting,” six Pennsylvania high school students are facing child pornography charges after three teenage girls allegedly took nude or semi-nude photos of themselves and shared them with male classmates via their cell phones.

The female students at Greensburg Salem High School in Greensburg, Pa., a

ll 14- or 15-years-old, face charges of manufacturing, disseminating or possessing child pornography while the boys, who are 16 and 17, face charges of possession, according to WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, which published the story on its Web site on Tuesday.

Police told the station that the photos were discovered in October, after school officials seized a cell phone from a male student who was using it in violation of school rules and found a nude photo of a classmate on it. Police were called in and their investigation led them to other phones containing more photos, it said.

Police Capt. George Seranko was quoted as saying that the first photograph was “a self portrait taken of a juvenile female taking pictures of her body, nude.” (more…)

Spain breaks up child pornography ring

| December 2, 2008 at 07:34 pm

MADRID (Reuters) – Spanish police said on Monday they had arrested 40 people in raids across the country to break up a file-sharing child pornography network.

The Civil Guard said in a statement that officers had conducted searches in 51 towns, confiscating computers containing 1,350 gigabytes of child pornography, as well as 25,000 photographs and 9,000 videos.

One of those arrested is suspected of distributing and posting pedophile images on the Internet. Another 35 people have been charged with forming part of the network.

The investigation began in February, after a computer user reported that he had accidentally accessed a network sharing pornographic photographs.

This was the biggest operation of its type in Spain since police swooped on 121 suspects in a child pornography raid on October 1.

San Diego man sentenced to 11 years in prison for traveling to Colorado to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor

| at 07:17 pm

DENVER – A man from San Diego, Calif., was sentenced Monday to more than 11 years in federal prison for traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Troy Eid, District of Colorado, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Copp.

Georges Najjar, 33, was charged by Criminal Complaint on March 17, and indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver on April 8. He pleaded guilty before then Chief U.S. District Court Judge Edward W. Nottingham on July 29.

Senior U.S. District Court Judge Lewis T. Babcock sentenced Najjar to serve 135 months in prison on Nov. 24. Najjar was also ordered to spend five years on supervised release, and must register as a sex offender. Judge Babcock ordered Najjar, a national of Beirut, Lebanon, to be taken into custody immediately to begin serving his prison sentence. After he completes his prison sentence, ICE will place Najjar into deportation proceedings.

According to the stipulated facts contained in the plea agreement, on Jan. 29 an ICE special agent, acting in an undercover capacity, was on line in an Internet Relay Chatroom, where she observed an internet post made by an unknown male. The post stated that the man was interested in “sponsoring” a mother and her children. The ICE agent posed as a 27-year old single mother of two with a 4-year old girl and a 5-year old boy. The male, later identified as Najjar, chatted via the internet and talked on the phone with the undercover agent many times. During those chats and calls, Najjar stated that he was looking for a physical relationship with the woman as well as her children. Najjar further stated that he was in training to be a school teacher. (more…)

Jacksonville based Navy sailor sentenced for possession of child pornography

Lime Wire

LimeWire is widely used to download Child Pornography

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A joint investigation between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office led to the sentencing of a 24-year-old U.S. Navy sailor who was convicted for possession of child pornography after downloading the illegal material from LimeWire.

Cardell Shaun Cole, a U.S. Navy sailor based out of Naval Station Mayport, was sentenced yesterday to more than two years in prison by U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan. Cole was also sentenced to a five-year term of supervised release and was ordered by the court to register under federal and state law as a sex offender. Cole was arrested at Naval Station Mayport on April 22, 2008, and may be discharged by the U.S. Navy on the basis of this felony conviction.

According to court documents, in November 2007, Cole brought his computer to a department store in Jacksonville for repairs. During the course of those repairs, computer technicians discovered suspected images of child pornography on the computer and contacted local law enforcement. ICE and JSO subsequently opened a joint investigation, which included a forensic examination of the computer. The results of the forensic examination confirmed the existence of numerous images of child pornography on Cole’s computer.

During the course of the investigation, Cole was interviewed by law enforcement. After being advised of his constitutional rights, Cole told ICE special agents that he utilized LimeWire to search the Internet for child pornography. Using search terms associated with child pornography, Cole would locate the images and then save them to his computer.

The arrest of Cole was part of Operation Predator, a comprehensive ICE initiative aimed at those who prey on children, including human traffickers, international sex tourists, Internet pornographers, and foreign national predators whose crimes make them deportable. Since the initiative was launched in July of 2003, there have been more than 11,500 individuals arrested nationwide. (more…)

FRESNO, Calif.- A band instructor at a Fresno-area high school has been charged with one count each of receiving and possessing child pornography following an investigation by the agencies on the Fresno Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Raymond Ferenci, 52, who works at Western High School in Tulare, Calif., was indicted by a grand here jury yesterday. The indictment alleges that, between May 2006 and July 2008, Ferenci used a computer in his possession to receive the images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
