Child-abuse, neglect deaths in Illinois remain high in DCFS-involved cases


We’re now learning more about Illinois children who have died from abuse or neglect in the past year.

WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times are partnering to analyze a new report from the inspector general of the state’s child welfare department. Reporters found the number of children dying from abuse or neglect remains high – even though child welfare officials had investigated the family.

WBEZ’s Tony Arnold and the Chicago Sun-Times’ Chris Fusco have been combing through the report and looking into the circumstances of some of these deaths.Tony and Chris joined WBEZ’s Lisa Labuz to talk about their reporting on this topic.

Tony began by saying what they found in the new Inspector General report on child deaths.
