Richard E. Wood, 59, of Baltimore, told county Common Pleas Judge Richard E. Berens that he was sorry.

The mother of a victim stood up to confront Wood. “What you have done is unforgivable and may God help you,” she said.

The Dispatch does not identify victims of sexual abuse.

Wood befriended teenage boys, let them hang out at his house playing video games and listening to music, and then photographed or videotaped them in a sexually explicit manner, authorities said.

Wood was indicted on 12 felony charges and pleaded guilty to three charges in a plea deal.

Berens sentenced him to nine years for two counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, and to five years for illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance. Berens suspended the latter sentence for five years’ probation after Wood is released.

Berens also classified him as a Tier 2 sex offender. He must register with his county sheriff and verify his address every six months for 25 years.

Wood had an earlier out-of-state conviction for gross sexual imposition, but because it was before the federal Adam Walsh Act became law, he didn’t have to register as a sex offender.

Berens told Wood that his conduct was “more aggravated than the typical case” because of his accumulation of child-pornography images over a period of years. More than 176,000 photographs and 5,000 videos were found on Wood’s computer, authorities said.
