The arrests have been made across the country

43 people have been arrested in several provinces across the country on the latest National Police swoop against child pornography. 95 searches have been carried out and a further 61 people are indicted in the case. ADAMS — Veteran Adams Police Officer Alan C. Vigiard, 45, was arrested last week and charged with possession of child pornography. He has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, authorities said Monday.According to state police reports, Vigiard, who is married with two children, allegedly downloaded and viewed child pornography in the Adams Police Department evidence room. He pleaded not guilty to the child pornography charge Friday in Northern Berkshire District Court.
Police Chief Donald Poirot and the State Police Berkshire Detective Unit began investigating after a folder containing 153 images of child pornography was copied onto CDs with evidence for a larceny case and sent to the Berkshire County district attorney’s office, according to court documents.
The images included both male and female children “clearly under age 18″ in various states of undress and in sexually explicit situations, according to state police reports. Mixed in with the pornographic images were pictures of clothed teenage girls who have been identified as being from the Adams area.

Officials say images of younger children becoming more pervasive
BARTOW, Fla. – When a single Florida county arrested 45 men and boys from all walks of life last June on charges of downloading child pornography, some people worried the place had become a haven for deviants.
But top law enforcement officials and child welfare experts say the only thing unusual about Polk County is that its sheriff, Grady Judd, happens to pursue child-porn enthusiasts with more fervor and resources than most.
Child porn has grown so pervasive on the Internet, they say, that police agencies all over the country, using the latest file-tracking technology, could easily spend every day finding and arresting offenders
“Today, it’s truly like shooting fish in a barrel,” said Judd, who has directed four child pornography roundups since 2006, resulting in at least 176 arrests in Polk County, a patchwork of orange groves, phosphate mines, modest towns and a half-million people between Tampa and Orlando. The biggest city is Lakeland, population 90,000.
Mike Phillips, chief of the computer crimes section at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, said Polk’s sheer number of child pornography arrests in recent years is almost unheard of nationally for a single agency.

BERLIN, Germany (CNN) — A suspected pedophile surrendered to police after German law enforcement published clips from videos of child pornography allegedly showing the man.
The German Federal Criminal Investigations Office also posted several photos and audio samples of the man’s voice as they reached out to the public for clues leading to his arrest.
Along with the videos, the agency also posted screen grabs from the videos showing the details of the apartment where the films were shot.
The suspect turned himself in but refused to give any further details of his identity, investigators said in a news release.
Police said they found about 42 videos in which the suspected pedophile abused children, believed to be between the ages of 5 and 7 at the time.
Police think the videos were filmed in 2006 and that the victims would now be between 8 and 10 years old. The Investigator’s Office said the man used violence against the children in some of the clips.
The German Federal Criminal Investigations Office has been using technology to combat child pornography for several years.
In 2008 the agency unscrambled photos of suspected Canadian pedophile Christopher Paul Neil which later led to his arrest in Thailand

Caroline Gammel, WA Today, Australia.
Is there is no end to the despair suffered by Gerry and Kate McCann? Fifteen months after their three-year-old daughter Madeleine disappeared from their holiday apartment at the Ocean Club resort in the Portuguese village of Praia da Luz, she is yet to be found. So often their hopes have been raised only to be cruelly dashed. Their daughter has been “seen” at a petrol station in Morocco, in the Maltese capital, Valetta, at a restaurant in the Belgian town of Tongeren, and in Cartagena in the south of Spain. But despite a lengthy international police inquiry and global publicity, no clues to her possible whereabouts have been uncovered.
Now, newly released secret Portuguese police files have provided information that can only deepen their anguish and increase their frustration at what appears to be a series of missed opportunities and a catalogue of failings in the hunt for their missing daughter. (more…)
