The number of Muslim “import brides” – – almost all of whom are poorly educated school-age children – – is increasing at such a rate in the Netherlands that it is causing “the destabilization of society.”

So says Eberhard van der Laan, the Dutch government’s Minister of Housing, Communities, and Integration.

“We can’t cope with it anymore,” Mr. van der Laan says.

The Dutch minister maintains that the problem has given rise to “crime, fraud, domestic violence, polygamy, and slavery.” Almost all of the import brides are under 18 – – some are children who have not entered puberty.

How many mature Muslim men in the Netherlands have child brides? Mr. van der Laan places the number at 15,000.

In a belated effort to solve the problem, the Dutch government has enacted legislation prohibiting marriage to children who are not yet 18 years-old.

To skirt this problem, Muslim men – – many in their 50s and 60s – – are traveling to Morocco, Turkey, and other Islamic countries for a wedding ceremony and returning to the Netherlands with their child brides.

The Dutch government has adopted additional measures to curb the problem of pedophilia, such as the forbidding of marriages between cousins and uncles and nieces – – practices that are common throughout the Islamic world – – all to no avail.

The majority of the child brides, according to Mr. van der Laan, come from Turkey, Morocco, and Somalia. He maintains that they are forced by their parents to marry older relatives who have taken up residence in the Netherlands.

Eberhard van der Laan is a member of leftist Dutch Labor Party (PvdA). This party has been largely responsible for failed immigration policies of the last three years. The previous center-right coalition government of Christian-Democrats (CDA) and the conservative liberal Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), which ruled between 2003 and 2007, took a tough stance on immigration and successfully curbed blatant abuses. The number of Muslim import brides went down, so did the number of Islamic asylum-seekers.

The CDA and VVD instituted measures that produced immediate results. One measure prohibited Islamists from importing of brides who were under the age of 21.

These rules were relaxed after the new center-leftist coalition government of Christian-Democrats and the Dutch Labor Party was formed in February 2007

Deputy Justice Minister Nebahat Albayrak (a second-generation Turkish immigrant and a member of the Labor Party) immediately pardoned some 27,000 asylum-seekers who moved to the Netherlands before 2001 but whose applications had been rejected repeatedly by Dutch courts.

As a result of the relaxation of immigration rules, the number of new asylum applications increased dramatically and is now even stretching the Dutch budget to the breaking point. The government no longer can pay the basic state pension for people aged 65 and over.

The Dutch government’s reluctance to call a halt to the Muslim immigration has raised concerns that the Netherlands may become an Islamic nation by 2024.

Dutch activist and documentary filmmaker Geert Welders, appearing at the Anti-Jihad Convention in Jerusalem, said: “Thousands and thousands of Muslims arrive in the Netherlands every year, while already one million Muslims are living in our tiny country. There are many problems concerning this massive influx: immigrants are overly represented in social benefits and crime statistics and the overall costs are staggering.

“But what we have to fear most is the creeping Islamization, the stealth jihad. Because every Islamic neighborhood, every Islamic shop, every mosque, every Islamic school, every burqa, every veil is regarded by many Muslims as building blocks towards a larger goal, towards domination.”

He said his children and two other wives agreed to the marriage, as did Safiya’s parents. And he claimed he wants to have more children with his young bride.

He explained that the girl’s father had first offered him his older daughter, but when the latter refused, the father had suggested the younger one, and he had agreed, since when girl was shown to him, he couldn’t see anything to prevent their getting married.

I’m sure that’s all unrelated to the fact that Islamic nations again come in last in the World Economic Forum (way more fair than the UN or even USCIRF) Global Gender Gap Index

This included such major nations as Pakistan (ranked 132 out of 134), Saudi Arabia (ranked 130 out of 134), Iran (ranked 128 out of 134), Egypt (ranked 126 out of 134), and Turkey (ranked 129 out 134).  Yemen, which is 99 percent Islamic, was the bottom ranked nation as 134 on the Global Gender Gap Index.  The only nation not predominantly Islamic in the bottom of the Global Gender Gap index was Benin.

In addition, the 2009 World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Index report does not include rankings on a number of significant and predominantly Islamic nations where women are oppressed [Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan].
