It is hard to detect and substantiate emotional abuse of female child because of many reasons, including a clear lack of an accepted and consistent definition and least importance of the subject matter in feudal and patriarchal societies.

It is widely recognized that verbal abuse of girl child is much prevalent and occurs in a range of relationships and social settings, all around the world. However, the intensity of such phenomenon is much higher in poor and developing countries, such as Pakistan. (more…)

Abuse, violence can alter children’s DNA: study

The stress of exposure to early-life violence can leave lasting marks on children so deep that it affects their DNA, according to the findings of a study by researchers at North Carolina’s Duke University.

Chromosomes of children who were exposed to maternal violence, bullying or physical maltreatment by an adult showed signs of biological aging, researchers reported Tuesday in a study published by the journal Molecular Psychiatry. (more…)

Helping prevent child abuse

April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month and a time to remember that we all have a role in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and their families in our community.

North Carolina has a mandatory reporting legislation, indicating that anyone who knows or suspects any type of child abuse should immediately make a report to local law enforcement or department of social services. (more…)

Fugitive in child-abuse case found in Visalia

Child abuseA multi-agency effort by law enforcement led to the arrest Thursday of a wanted Fresno man who had been hiding in a northwest Visalia house.

Officers from Visalia, Fresno, state parole, California Department of Justice and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrested Jesse Montemajno, 22, who was wanted on felony child-abuse charges, according to Fresno officers at the scene.

Severely Malnourished Child Leads To Abuse Charges

child abuseMIAMI (CBSMiami) – A North Miami Beach mother and father have been arrested and charged with child abuse after their severely malnourished child was found naked in the street.

Police said the child had jumped from the rear window of his house in the 14-hundred block of NE 152 Street, to escape his abusers on Saturday night.

The child, who is nine-years-old, was said to have the body of a much younger child, according to North Miami Beach Police. (more…)

Child abuse registry bill moves forward in House

A bill reforming due-process rights for people placed on Iowa’s child abuse registry advanced out of a House subcommittee on Thursday.

But changes are still on the table for the legislation, which has taken shape through an unusually cooperative process on what had been a sharply contentious issue. (more…)

Court transfers child abuse case to CBI

Stating that the Crime Branch-CID of the State police had not properly investigated a case relating to the alleged sexual abuse of a four-year-old child by two school teachers, the Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered transfer of investigation to the CBI.

In its judgment on a writ petition, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice M.Y.Eqbal and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam, said the victim should not be subjected to any further medical test. Investigation should proceed based on the available medical opinion. (more…)

Warrior words over ‘Maori child abuse’ label claim

Maori are a warrior race prone to violence, and an academic’s call to stop referring to Maori child abuse is whitewashing the problem instead of dealing with it, a prominent iwi leader says.

Ngapuhi leader David Rankin hit back at an Auckland academic’s claim the increasing use of the term “Maori child abuse” is fuelling racism.

Rankin said Maori are a “violent people” and the term accurately reflects what some Maori parents are doing to their children. (more…)

Parents charged in child abuse case in Horry County

Child abuseTwo adults from Aynor were arrested Wednesday for beating their child, according to a report from the Horry County Police Department.

Roger Hemingway and Jennifer Hemingway were charged with abuse/to inflict great bodily injury upon a child. Both are being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and no bail has been set.

According to the police report, a school resource officer said the victim had reported being abused by his parents on Halloween night, saying he had been beaten around the legs with a baseball bat by his father. (more…)

Study finds how child abuse changes the brain

Children exposed to family violence show the same pattern of activity in their brains as soldiers exposed to combat, scientists said on Monday.

In a study in the journal Current Biology, researchers used brain scans to explore the impact of physical abuse or domestic violence on children’s emotional development and found that exposure to it was linked to increased activity in two brain areas when children were shown pictures of angry faces.
